There has been a great deal of debate over non prescription sleep aids in recent years. People wonder whether they actually help you to achieve a restful sleep, whether they can be habit forming and, whether in fact they should be prescription controlled.

In most cases non prescription sleep aids are perfectly safe when you take them as the packet instructs you to do, and steer clear of other additional medications or substances which may interact with them such as, alcohol.

These sleep aids can take many forms. They range from herbal supplements, to chemical drugs of less potency than those prescribed by a physician.

Of course there is the chance that the non prescription sleep aids can be habit forming if you select the chemical, or drug variety. The key to that is using them wisely, and not taking them when its not necessary, but rather, give your body a chance to get some sleep naturally prior to taking them.

In some cases, the body can grow accustomed to them over a long period of time, so that when you do need them, they are less effective than they would have been if you had not been taking them over a lengthy time span.

It’s best to just find a natural kind, so that you can take it every night, without becoming used to them. Natural sleep aids actually work better and better as you build them up in your body. Plus, they are good for you too.

Non prescription sleep aids, when used correctly, can help you to achieve a full nights sleep and let you wake feeling rested as opposed to groggy. Make sure that you take them according to directions. Don’t take them more often than necessary, and when you do use them, don’t use other medications that may interact with them.
