Snoring Aids That Are Effective

31 Oct

I wanted to take the time to talk to you about the snoring aids that people can use to fix this problem. There are people that literally go their entire lives doing this. What is even sadder is that there is usually a wife or husband that has to listen to it for an entire marriage. I honestly don’t know how anyone could do that, but there are a lot of strong people out there. The point is that it isn’t fair to those people around you that have to listen to you snore. It’s time to stop putting them through misery by using snoring aids that will help provide results.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the mouth guard on television. It looks just like a sports mouth guard that you wear to bed and it stops you from snoring. The reason that this works is that it controls the position of your jaw. When you sleep, your jaw becomes unsupported and it will rest on your throat. This leads to a lot of pressure and you end up creating snoring sounds. The mouth guard works perfectly fine at controlling the jaw, but I don’t like it since saliva builds up in my mouth and I literally wake up in the middle of the night choking on it.

Another one of the snoring aids is a jaw supporter. It also controls the jaw like a mouth guard, except it wraps around your chin and the top of your head. I like this much better because it is a lot more comfortable on the outside of your head, instead of in your mouth.

Advice For Finding Relaxing Rheumatoid Arthritis Exercises

30 Oct

Having rheumatoid arthritis is stressful. You worry how bad it’s going to get. You worry if you can take care of yourself. You worry about being able to afford care. But worrying actually INCREASES your rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and lowers your body’s natural healing processes. No matter what level of pain you experience, you need time every day for these relaxing rheumatoid arthritis exercises. You can do them by themselves or as the warming up part of a more intense routine or before getting on with your usual daily activities.

Yawning And Stretching

Ever watch a cat yawn and stretch? They are the masters of it. Mimic them in this rheumatoid arthritis exercise, even if you are still lying in bed. Slowly, luxuriously, stretch out one “paw” and then the other. If you can, lift your legs in a stretch, too. You can pretend you’re a cat and wash your face or roll over onto your hands and knees on the mattress for a kitty backstretch. Take all of this slowly and only do what you are comfortable with. Yawning will not only stretch your face and neck muscles, but give you deep inhalations of oxygen that can help your body to unconsciously relax.

Laughing

This is one of the most pleasant and often overlooked rheumatoid arthritis exercises. Even if you are not feeling particularly chipper, just the act of laughing for a minute triggers subconscious reactions in your body so that you will soon actually be laughing. If it’s hard to force a laugh for a rheumatoid arthritis exercise, then consider taking time out to watch a favorite television comedy or watch the general silliness of life. It’s good to have a conversation a day with someone for any chance to laugh. You could call it your “rheumatoid arthritis exercise.” That should get you some laughs, and lots lower stress levels.

Playing With Clay

It’s not important if you are the next Michelangelo, just get your hands moving by wriggling it into squishy, forgiving clay or even mud. There’s just enough resistance to help give your joints a work out, but not enough to over do it. You don’t need to make shapes or anything recognizable. Just fool around with the clay for ten minutes as a different and unusual rheumatoid arthritis exercise. This is best for hand and wrist arthritis. There’s no reason why you can’t goof around with clay with your feet, but lay down newspaper or old towels before you attempt it. It will be quite messy, but quite uplifting and maybe you’ll even laugh.

Swine Flu – Symptoms and Aid

30 Oct

In a world where a global economy is a given, where worldwide travel is routine, and borders are increasingly less defined, the recipe for a global pandemic is just right. All that is needed to bring humanity to its knees is the perfect disease. Historically, this “perfect disease” has been a particularly deadly version of the common flu. In 1918, a version of swine flu threatened to decimate humanity, killing somewhere between 50 and 100 million people, approximately one-third of our species. Today, fear of a similar global outbreak of swine flu is high; in order to sort everything out, here is a good introduction to the symptoms and possible aid of persons infected with swine flu.

As seen today, the dangerous variant of Influenza A Type-H1N1 swine flu is really not much different than any other flu that you may have had in the past. The big game changer is how our bodies react to the disease once it infects us: It is simply unable to deal with the symptoms. Our bodies generally have some resistance to the flu from infections that we have dealt with in the past or that our ancestors survived. This level of immunity helps our body to work against the symptoms that could kill us and helps fight off the flu. What results is a relatively mild flu that keeps us home sick for a few days. However, the H1N1 swine flu virus seen today is really a mix of swine, bird, and human influenza.

Swine flu is believed to be contracted through contact with an infected person. This type of influenza has been observed to readily spread from person to person. A person infected with H1N1 swine flu will not immediately notice any changes. Depending on the person’s immune system, it could take 24 hours or more for him or her to start feeling the effects of the infection. These symptoms mirror the effects of the common flu, but are much more severe: body aches, headaches, fever, sore throats, coughing, chills, and fatigue are often present. Infected people with H1N1 flu are also highly likely to suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, and the associated dehydration. Although these effects are severe enough, the real killer comes from pulmonary edema, which is the filling of the lungs with fluid, which causes coughing. In the 1918 flu pandemic, victims literally drowned in their own body fluids. These symptoms take a toll on the body and can also aggravate existing conditions or allow new ones, such as tuberculosis or pneumonia, to take hold.

Luckily for us, it appears that swine flu may not be as deadly as originally believed. Modern medicine has played a key factor in the ability of most infected people in developed countries to make complete recoveries. Ensuring that an infected person is identified early and receives the proper care also seems to be important in ensuring survival. Anti-viral drugs such as Tamiflu and Relenza are currently highly effective at fighting off the H1N1 swine flu. It is also important to keep an infected person warm and well-hydrated, ensuring that they receive plenty of rest and are not stressed needlessly, as this helps his or her body to work against the infection and avoid complications such as dehydration. A full recovery is possible with proper treatment.

It is important for us to remember that we can take steps to prevent the spread of swine flu. Simple steps such as washing your hands and covering your mouth while coughing or sneezing do have a big effect on controlling the spread.

Bird Flu Supplement 4 – What Should Be Done If There is a Breakout of Bird Flu?

30 Oct

This Bird Flu supplement is designed to inform readers what can be done in the short term if an outbreak of Avian Influenza becomes a concern in this country.

Avian Influenza, or Bird Flu, is a strain of the influenza type A virus found in birds. There is currently a large amount of concern over this disease and it’s most recent strain H5N1, which has been shown to be highly deadly if contracted by humans.

This strain, which was previously thought to be localized to south east Asia, has shown up in over 14 countries, and while most infections are from direct contact with diseased birds, it has recently been shown to jump from human to human in extreme cases. The main concern of health authorities at this stage is if the virus develops the ability to easily transmit itself from human to human (like the common flu viruses we are used to) it could mean a global pandemic with millions of lives at risk.

The best course of action to be taken in the event of an outbreak is to keep informed and healthy as possible during the outbreak, by following common sense and some other simple and practical guidelines.

Our government and many others around the world have stockpiled drugs and treatments and have contingency plans for distribution of these in place. You will have more chance of survival by following these guidelines and waiting for the drugs to be distributed, than you will storming hospitals and doctors surgeries in a panic demanding drugs and treatment. History has shown this will happen, so be informed and don’t be part of the mania.

1. Avoid non-essential travel and large crowds, especially enclosed spaces with little ventilation. There has been some argument over the effectiveness of masks against Bird Flu, but if you absolutely have to be around large groups it couldn’t hurt.

2. Maintain vigilant hygiene, and enforce it on others in your home. Wash hands frequently. Avoid touching your face with hands that haven’t been washed. Clean and disinfect hard surfaces, door handles, kitchens and other high contact areas frequently.

3. Cover nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing.

4. At any sign of illness or infection, take common medicines you should have around the house for treating common influenza. These may include ibuprofen, paracetamol or aspirin. It won’t cure the infected, but could reduce severity of symptoms and buy the infected some more time before proper treatment is distributed.

By following the simple tips and guidelines laid out in this Bird Flu supplement, you should have more chance at avoiding illness and infection, and the means to deal with infection if it should happen to you or your family. Much of it seems like common sense, but in a pandemic situation, there is nothing more uncommon than common sense.

5 Baby Sleep Aids That Still Work!

28 Oct

Do you find yourself climbing the walls at 3 a.m. as your six-month-old plays on the floor to her heart’s content? Does she snooze all day when you don’t have the opportunity to do the same?

Welcome to the mixed up world of babies!

When night becomes day and day becomes night, there are still some sleep aids that can really help both of you out. If your little one happens to be in daycare, chances are you’re going to need to enlist their help. Make sure to get it as the gentle shuffling of night back into night and day into day very likely could take a lot of effort on everyone’s part, but it can be done.

The first thing to do to ensure that her upside down schedule gets set straight is to… Start working at keeping her up a little longer from her daytime naps. Gentle nudging for an extra five minutes today, 10 tomorrow and so on can add up quickly to help you get the sleep you need and put her schedule right. If sleeping at night is just not her thing, continue working on keeping her awake a bit more during the day and start using some baby sleep aids at night.

There are many things that actually have a very big impact at night. Some of the best ideas, according to parents, include very basic tricks such as:

* Music. Sometimes babies just need a little background noise to get some good, solid sleep. This makes sense when you think about it. For nine months your little one didn’t go a moment without hearing a heartbeat or gurgle. Selecting the right music to sooth her can be a very big help.

* Lights out. While this is likely to change as she gets old, most babies tend to sleep much better if the room is quite dark. Heavy drapes or blinds can work as very effective baby sleep aids.

* Routine. If baby is getting a little older, consider putting together a very basic bedtime routine. You can start out with a little bit of playing, a soothing bath, a lullaby and a tuck in. When she gets used to the routine, this often serves as one the most effective tricks that don’t have to cost a fortune.

* Snuggle suits. Products like the Halo sleep sack that snuggle baby while she sleeps and keep her temperature just right can really work wonders. While these products present and extra expense, if they do the trick, they’re worth every penny. Just make sure these sacks are made for a baby the size of your little one and that they fit comfortably.

* Sheet change. Sometimes one of the things that prevents baby from sleeping comfortably in her crib is the actual sheets. If they are too cold or too scratchy, they might cause her a little distress. Consider changing out the sheets to help her feel more comfortable at home. If she’s in daycare and sleeps well there, find out what type of sheets, mattresses and baby sleep aids they use, too.

Getting your little one to turn her schedule around is going to take some effort. With the right gentle prodding and the correct baby sleep aids, the effort should pay off well.

Marijuana – Global Use of Medical Marijuana

25 Oct

Marijuana has been used as an illegal, recreational drug for many years but around the world it is also used as a health aid. Another name for medical marijuana is “Medical Cannabis”. Cannabis is another name for this drug that is derived from the hemp plant.

In the countries of Canada, the United States (depending on individual states), Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Spain, Finland and Israel, cannabis is legal for certain medicinal applications.

Thirteen states within the United States have legalized the use of marijuana. Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington have enacted laws in order to make the plant use legal with certain restrictions and guidelines.

Many of the thirteen states that have voted in legalization require the user to have an ID card and adhere to the regulated maximum limit for possession. Many other states are still in the progress of investigating and instituting legalization.

In Canada, these cannabis is distributed by Health Canada under the brand name of CannaMed to patients who fit into certain categories. These categories include end-of-life patients or those with a debilitating medical condition. It is prescribed in order to help with epileptic seizures, severe pain associated with either HIV/AIDS, arthritis, cancer, multiple sclerosis or a spinal cord injury or disease.

In Spain, marijuana has undergone a progression toward decriminalization since the late 1990′s. It is used for patients with HIV/AIDS, cancer, asthma, seizures and multiple sclerosis in order to alleviate pain, nausea and overall suffering. Spain has established cannabis user associations and clubs.

Germany and Austria have worked toward legalization since 1998. Its chemical ingredient, THC, has been reclassified in drug restrictions and continues to be studied scientifically.

A study in England stated that the following symptoms, diseases or conditions were shown to be aided and improved by the use of medical marijuana:

- Arthritis
- Brain Injury/Stroke
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Nausea resulting from chemotherapy during cancer treatment
- HIV/AIDS
- Glaucoma
- Epilepsy
- Asthma
- Migraines
- Eating Disorders

Medical cannabis may be smoked, eaten, taken in THC pill or liquid form and vaporized into a spray application. Reportedly, there are cookies that may be purchased by prescription which contain the drug medicinally.

There is still considerable dispute within the medical community about the effectiveness of marijuana. Many physicians are strong proponents of the drug’s use while others are hesitant to recommend something that may have adverse side effects. If you live in a state or country where the drug has been legalized, it becomes an individual choice to be made with the help of a physician.

Do You Want to Perfect Your Golf Swing? Here Are a Few Golf Swing Aids and Tips to Get You Started!

24 Oct

For many people who play golf, it can be frustrating when your golf swing is the cause of a bad game. Whilst mainly a problem for beginners, some regular players also experience problems with their golf swing because they just don’t know any other way to do it. Unless you have had some lessons with a Pro or a teacher, then it is not unlikely that this will be a problem you are familiar with. Before making any changes to how you perform your golf swing, it is important to look at your clubs. Good grips are essential for a good golf swing as you need to ensure you have something to grip on to. Worn grips can be replaced or, depending on your clubs, it could be cheaper to simply buy a replacement club.

The first thing to consider when looking at your golf swing is your stance. A bad stance will lead to a bad back swing, downswing and follow through. Relax your stance and your grip. A good swing happens naturally and a tight grip will kill your swing – a good tip is to hold your club as if you are holding a bird. Remember that a good golf swing has almost nothing to do with your arms; the movement needed comes from the rest of your body.

With your golf back swing, don’t think about your arms, think about turning your back to the target while pulling your club back. When you begin your back swing, make sure your left arm rolls slightly clockwise. This should happen naturally so it is best if you don’t resist it. Try to keep your feet firmly on the ground as this will help to anchor your back swing. Another thing to remember is to cock your wrists. They should be at a ninety degree angle by the time your left wrist is parallel with the ground, taking the golf club back straight.

A good golf down swing starts at the bottom of your body. The best way to complete this swing is to use your lower body, not your shoulders, to carry out the swing. A good way to implement this is to have your belt buckle facing the target, by turning your hips fast and powerfully. This swing should be natural and is a result of everything that precedes it. Again, the best way to carry this swing out naturally is to relax.

After taking the above points into consideration, the best way to improve your golf swing is to practice at the driving range. A good method to use at the range is to practice as if you are playing a round of golf, and use the different types of clubs you would use on the golf course. After each shot, you should take the time to consider what went right and what went wrong, and contemplate what possible changes could be made. It is also important to spend time practicing your putting. Whilst often overlooked while out practicing by most golfers, a good putt can make up for any mistakes you might have made in your golf swing. By taking all this tips into consideration, it won’t be long before you see an improvement in your golf swing.

Water Filters Versus Bottled Water

22 Oct

Water filters are used to purify water from sediment and toxic elements. Filtration is an exercise that has been applauded and recommended by the United States Federal Regulations. Water filters have moved from just being commercial products but domestic products as well. Home water filtration is a common method of water purification that is currently gaining steady popularity among Americans. Many homes have identified water filtering companies that offer valuable information on the use and maintenance of domestic filters.

Under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, bottled water has been subjected to thorough inspections. The United States Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) has toiled to ensure safety and hygiene of water consumed. The regulations put in place by the United States Food and Drug and Drug Administration (FDA) have equally ensured that the deceptive brand names of bottled water deliver the quality they advertise in the media. The trustworthiness of bottled water has been at the centre of controversy. The regulatory viewpoint has been to avail a standardized product that is pure and free from lead and chlorine.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established recommended standards that ensure water free from microbial and chemical contamination. The safest recommended production practices maintain that water is sampled and sanitized. It is thus advisable to choose the best methods of water treatment that assure the consumers of safety and good health. On health issues, one cannot gamble. There have been occasions when bottled water was inspected and found to contain mold, benzene and even algae.

Water filters are more economical on a per gallon billing than bottled water. The annual average cost of buying bottled water is relatively more expensive compared to the cost of acquiring and maintaining water filters. This is because most water filters only require changing every one to two months for the average family. Picking on filtering ones own water is a step towards a healthy body and long life. At the convenience of home, one is able to meet the desired quality of water, free from chloride impurities. Additionally, the chemical content does not change with filtration.

Water as a beverage must be exposed to stricter quality measures that will deliver the required purity and freshness. Research conducted indicates that much of the water that is availed to consumers by the bottling companies is drawn from municipal sources. This water is later sold to the unsuspecting consumers posing a health hazard. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has encouraged consumers to practice the use of domestic water filtration. The organization has also put stringent Model Codes that are applicable in some regions.

The environmental influence that consumption of bottled water exerts on the environment is distressing. More than sixty million plastic containers are dumped in the United States everyday. The plastic manufacturing companies emit bad waste materials that facilitate the green house effect. Bottled water cannot stand the test of time that filtered water has exhibited. Although bottled water is readily available, the filtered water is nature friendly and the quality for good health.

Eye Makeup Allergies

21 Oct

If the skin around your eyes becomes itchy, red, puffy or scaly after using makeup, you have probably developed an allergy or sensitivity to one of your cosmetics. The whites of your eyes may also become red and swollen. Depending on the offending material, the reaction may continue to get worsen, or may clear up spontaneously. The allergic reaction usually involves both eyes, but one side may be more affected than the other.

The eyelid and surrounding areas is especially vulnerable because its skin is extremely thin and loose, allowing chemicals to penetrate more easily. This may cause the skin to swell more readily than on other parts of the face.

An allergy is your body’s reaction to “foreign” substances. The basic ingredients of all cosmetics are waxes, oils, detergents, dyes, perfumes, lanolin, and preservatives. Any of these can cause an allergic reaction in the delicate skin around your eyes.

It might seem strange to suddenly become allergic to a makeup you have been using for years. Actually, your body has probably been slowly building up a sensitivity to the makeup. Once an allergic response to a substance occurs, the reaction usually gets worse every time you use that substance.

The first step in treatment is to stop using the offending material. Since you usually can’t identify the specific culprit, all cosmetics should be stopped until the reaction clears up. A steroid ointment may be prescribed to aid in clearing the allergic reaction.

To prevent recurrences, it is important to find the exact cause of the problem. This will require some detective work. After your skin has cleared, start using one makeup product at a time. After one week, if there is no reaction, add another product. Continue adding one product each week until your skin gets red and itchy again. Then eliminate the last product that caused the reaction.

You may also need to use hypo-allergic cosmetics, which tend to cause fewer and less severe allergic reactions. This is because they contain fewer allergy-causing substances. Some cosmetics that are labeled hypo-allergenic really aren’t. It is important to read the label. Don’t use any product that contains lanolin and perfume, the most common causes of skin reactions.

If your skin can’t even tolerate hypo-allergenic products, you may be able to use non-allergenic cosmetics. They do not contain any chemicals that can cause allergies.
