Millions of people suffer with allergies and there isn’t much they can do about them short of avoiding the allergen altogether. Allergies to things like cats and dust can turn a person’s life upside down. In the past, people have tried allergy shots with varied success.
Many people with allergies, desperate for a solution, turn to alternative remedies. One particular alternative allergy treatment, called NAET. (short for Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) has garnered a lot of attention in recent years. Celebrities like Dylan McDermott and Alana Stewart have endorsed it.
So what is it? According to the official website: “NAET is a safe and effective technique in detecting and eliminating or desensitizing all types of allergies. NAET combines Kinesiology (Muscle Responsive Testing), Chiropractic and Oriental Medicine to clear allergic reactions through a reprogramming of the brain … This technique can successfully desensitize the body in order to achieve an allergy-free state.”
What types of allergies do NAET practitioners claim they can treat? The more common allergies such as food allergies, dust, pollen, pet hair, and flowers are often diagnosed and treated first. Then, items in one’s environment that one may not have thought of as an allergen are tested: air conditioning, fluoride, plastic, chlorine. NAET practitioners claim that one can be “allergic” to just about anything.
Besides treating allergies, many practitioners practice what they call “emotional clearing.” Events from one’s past may cause health imbalances that cause allergies and other problems. By clearing the emotional issues, they claim, the health problems will go away.
NAET has also become a popular treatment for autism. Many parents claim their children have improved after treatment. Others claim the treatments brought no results for their children. NAET practitioners claim that some children need more treatment than others.
Given all the things one can be allergic to, NAET treatment can go on for months if the person has a lot of allergies. Treatment often takes place once or twice per week. It can be costly, but for those who have achieved results and rid themsevles of allergies, it may be worth it.
If you suffer from allergies, NAET may be an option. As with all alternative therapies, it is important to read as much as you can before trying them and spending the money. There is a lot of information about NAET available online to help you decide. While some people haven’t had much success with the treatment, for others with severe allergies it has been life-changing.

Is NAET an Effective Treatment for Allergies?
Identifying The Causes For Sinus Allergies
Do your sinuses get plugged up the minute spring arrives? Do your sinus symptoms come and go with the arrival of different seasons? Do your sinus symptoms seem to increase when you are exposed to mold, dust, or animals? These sinus allergy situations are just a few examples of when sinus allergies can intensify to the point of real discomfort.
Environmental elements such as dust, pollen, and mold seep into your sinuses. Your body perceives these substances as harmful and reacts by producing histamines. These histamines come in the form of itching eyes and an itching, runny nose.
One of the most common sinus allergy afflictions is due to hay fever and ragweed. Hay fever is an allergic reaction to your environment.
A sinus allergy is often confused with a cold. How can you determine if you have a sinus allergy versus a cold? Observe to see whether you have red, itchy eyes and a runny nose along with the congestion. The itching is a sign that you have a sinus allergy as versus a cold.
Another way to figure out if you are suffering from a sinus allergy versus a cold is to ppay attention to what time of the year your congestion isymptoms increase. Does congestion increase in the spring when the flowers (and the weeds), are in full bloom? Does your congestion and itchy increase when there is high pollen activity in the environment? If this is true, then you most likely have a sinus allergy.
Sinus allergies can erupt from pollutants in your household. Always keep your house clean and use an air purifying filter. Mold, dust, and dander can leave you susceptible to sinus allergy flare-ups. How can you minimize the effects of household mold, dust, and dander? A HEPA filter is a great filter to use that will rid your air of any harmful substances.
If you do suffer from sinus allergies then you can find relief by heading to the medicine isles of your grocery store or local drug store. There are plenty of sinus allergy medications to choose from. Become a label reader tp make sure you are getting the most effective and appropriate medication. Some sinus allergy medications are made for the day time and will not make you drowsy. As opposed to Antihistamines that can make you drowsy.
Sinus allergy is a common trial for many people. Take comfort in knowing that
sinus relief is available, it is a matter of combining the small steps together to get significant relief. By removing environmental triggers and taking allergy
medication you have the best chance of minimizing your sinus allergies.
Why You Need to Install a Kitchen Sink Water Filter
I don’t know if you have installed a kitchen sink water filter in your house, or if you even know the reason why you should have one, but I do know that if I want to live a healthy life I need to drink water. And that water needs to be pure without any contaminates.
In order to be sure we drink healthy water it is wise to choose a home water purification unit. These come in many types, including whole house water purifying systems, a kitchen sink water filter, refrigerator filters, and many more.
Drinking plenty of water is the best way to rid our body of toxins. A minimum of eight 8-ounce glasses day is a must, and I go by the formula that requires me a bit more than that. I take my weight and divide by two to get the amount of water I should drink for optimum health.
Now don’t be thinking I’m going to tell me my weight, because I’m not – like most women that is a closely guarded secret for me, but an example of what I just wrote is if you weigh 150 pounds you would need to drink 75 ounces of healthy water a day.
There’s that healthy word again, which is what I am all about. I figure there is enough in this world I can’t control, even concerning my own health, so I take control of the things I can. And one of those things is to drink healthy uncontaminated water.
Don’t be fooled by that nice clear liquid coming out of your kitchen faucet. If you don’t have a sink water filter attached, or another means of purifying that water, it has dangerous chemicals in it that will harm your health and may even cause you premature death from diseases like cancer or heart failure to name a couple.
You don’t have to take my word for it either. Here is just one of many quotes you’ll find if you do your research about contaminates in our water. This is from the Ralph Nader Research Group. “U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer.”
Drinking water without a sink water filter will not kill you dead the minute you drink it, but the dangerous effects of the toxins in your body will harm you over the long haul. And since the reason to be sure we drink water everyday is to rid our body of toxins it doesn’t make sense to add more chemicals to our body in the water we drink.
Go online and research water purifying systems and find the right one for you. Be sure to invest in one that purifies the water from “all” contaminates not just a few. The manufacture you buy from should provide you with information concerning what their filters remove.
A rule of thumb is to buy a system with multiple filters, including a granular activated carbon filter, sub micron filter, multi block filter and an ion exchange for the best results for contaminate free water. You can find a kitchen sink water filter model for just under a $100 that will provide you with great tasting healthy water.
Don’t wait until you have a disease or our run down with poor health, do it now to hedge against getting diseases. Make a conscious choice to improve or maintain your health. Do it today.
One Easy And Affordable Way To Improve The Quality Of Your Life
A steam bath can be a great addition to your master bath suite, basement gym or entertainment room. These days a personal steam bath is an affordable luxury that any homeowner can enjoy. It will improve the quality of your life in more ways than you might expect.
A steam bath is occasionally referred to as a steam sauna, but a sauna is actually a different type of bath. A steam bath is a vapor proof room with 100 percent humidity and a temperature that rarely goes above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. A traditional sauna has less moisture and higher temperatures, sometimes approaching 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Strictly speaking, the steam bath is actually more of a vapor bath with a warm, damp climate. A modern steam bath is energy efficient and does not require any more floor space than a standard shower stall. In fact it is a fairly small job to convert an existing shower into a fully functional steam shower.
In some cultures the steam bath is known as a panacea and is considered a great way to revitalize the spirit. Thanks to its invigorating and relaxing properties, the steam bath is one of the best therapies for fighting the stress and tension we suffer in our every day lives. The steam bath is also useful for cleaning and toning the skin surface. It provides a terrific deep cleaning that opens and loosens congested pores. The steam bath is especially helpful for breathing problems and stimulates cardiovascular circulation. A steam bath can be good for headaches, skin conditions and even insect bites. Many people believe that if a steam bath is taken at the onset of a cold, it will reduce the likelihood of it turning into the flu. A steam bath has also been known to improve the health and look of your hair and scalp. Although the effect will be short lived it is quite possible to sweat off several pounds in a steam bath.
A steam bath is one of the most ancient forms of detoxification and helps open the pores, which can allow for the elimination of toxins. This acts much like a simulated fever. It can help sweat the toxins out of your body.
The main risk of either a sauna or a steam bath is overdoing it – too much heat is not good for you and may result in fainting or even more severe complications. The ideal duration of stay in the steam bath is 10 to 15 minutes. In addition, steam baths are sometimes not recommended for pregnant women. As always you should check with your doctor if you have any doubts.
A Steam Bath is more that just a lot of hot air. It can be a natural and safe form of rejuvenation for your body and soul. They are a truly unique form of bathing that can be affordable and easy to maintain, when compared to hot tubs or repeated visits to an exotic spa. The Steam Bath is really a hot, damp, all-embracing healthy form of self-indulgence.
Mastering the Golf Swing With Training Aids
Golfers try to be perfect, but since no one even the pros are perfect, the endeavor is inherently futile. But, even the most diehard hack can become a better golfer.
One only has to remember the movie “Tin Cup” with Rene Russo and Kevin Costner to realize that people will turn to golf training aids when their swings become out of whack. Who can forget Rene wearing all those gizmos to correct her out-of-balance swing?
But, besides the wackiness of movies, there are some real golf training aids that can help most golfers either recover their old swings and improve their current game. Books, videos, DVDs and other visual aids will help some. Lessons with help others.
Still there is a need for some to use the latest laser putter, golf cage, 60-foot backyard mat or gyro driver. Golfer are constantly working on their long games, short games and medium range games.
For the long game, some will want to drive the ball as far as humanly possible. While some will turn up their noses as this gorilla approach, others see a practical value in this. For instance, conditioning yourself and getting the most of your swing in order to hit the ball over a long water hazard is invaluable.
Cutting short a dog leg with a monster drive can put you up a stroke on your nearest competition. Driving the green on a long par-3 can also be an advantage. There are many golf training aids that will help with the long drive including special clubs meant for conditioning the player.
For the short game around the greens, most golfers go by the adage of “drive for show and putt for dough” which simply means the person with the best putting game generally wins. Putting aids such as golfing mats, laser putters, artificial greens, and kickback holes have been helping golfers in the boardroom, office, home and backyard improve their games before they even step onto the course.
Books and videos from the pros, showing how they line up putts and anticipate the break of green are an invaluable tool to cutting down the strokes per hole. Some avid golfers even go so far as to construct a green in their backyards for the purpose of practice putting.
But, besides the long and short games, golfers also have to consider their medium games as well. This includes approach shots, chipping, bunkers and sand traps, avoiding other hazards and getting out of others. Monoculars, GPS systems and other golfing aids can help. But, there is nothing as good as training one’s own swing for the medium game that will help a golfer shave off strokes.
There are some systems that will tell a golfer whether or not the club face is open or closed or how the follow through is to help their swing and commit it to muscle memory. Most golfers use a more finesse swing on the approach shots than they do on drives.
So, finding aids that will help the repetition of chipping and approaching is necessary for those who want to be competitive. As in many sports, golfing is a series of small corrections one has to constantly make in order to be consistent.
And, consistency is what separates the good golfer from the mediocre one, time and again.
Allergies and Antihistamine Treatment
Millions of people have it or have most likely experienced its symptoms at one point of their lives. Runny nose, watery and itchy eyes, sneezing and coughing are just some of the most common symptoms of an allergy attack.
Other more serious symptoms may include the sudden appearance of hives, dizzy spells, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Some even experience behavioral changes as a reaction to an allergy attack. Allergies should not be taken lightly. There are instances when an allergy attack triggers severe reactions, which can ultimately lead to death.
The symptoms of an allergy attack can sometimes be very hard to differentiate from those of other ailments. Its symptoms can be erroneously diagnosed as those from the common cold or a food intolerance, to name a few. For these reasons, most doctors advocate that allergies be properly diagnosed by an experienced allergist to avoid taking in the wrong medication. Don’t even try to self-medicate since it is known to cause more harm than good.
You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain in going to the doctor, so why wouldn’t you? Not only will you get the correct diagnosis for your ailment but you will also be prescribed with the appropriate medications to ease and eliminate the discomforting symptoms as well.
Mild Allergies and Antihistamines
Taking antihistamines can be an economical and effective means to relieve the symptoms of the allergy attack and end your woes.
For most mild allergies such as hay fever or an allergy to animal hair, the symptoms can be successfully controlled by taking non-prescription (over-the-counter) antihistamines. But as diligent consumers, it is best to secure your doctor’s approval and/or recommendation before taking the medication (or any other medication) to avoid the possibility of any medical complications.
However, it is sad to note that most people misunderstand the actions of these medications and think of them as an instant solution or a quick fix from allergy attacks. They think that once the symptoms start showing, they can just pop a pill and the symptoms will be gone in a moment! Antihistamines, unfortunately, do not work that way.
Antihistamines are most effective when taken well before the onset of the allergy season. For example, a person suffering from hay fever may benefit greatly from the medication when taken at least a week or two before the allergy season begins.
In choosing the appropriate antihistamine for this kind of allergies, look for one with chlorpheniramine maleate as its main active ingredient. Chlorpheniramine maleate has the benefit of being certified as the oldest and safest allergy drugs ever to hit the market. It can effectively control classical hay fever symptoms such as runny nose, itchy eyes and sneezing.
Antihistamine Regimen to Prevent Allergy Attacks
Doctors agree that allergy attacks can be prevented by adopting an antihistamine regimen before the onset of the allergy season. Prevent those discomforting allergy attacks by following the steps outlined below.
. Start off your routine by taking at least one-fourth of the recommended dosage as indicated in the package labels. Since antihistamines can cause drowsiness, it is advisable to start taking the medication in the evenings.
. Gradually increase the dosage as you begin to tolerate the effects of the medication. This will eventually come at approximately a week or two after you started your routine. By then, you can up the dosage by taking in two 12 milligram doses of antihistamine daily (one in the morning and another one during the evening). Studies show that significant relief from allergy symptoms can be achieved by taking this much dosage of antihistamine.
By following these recommendations, you can say goodbye to your allergy attacks forever!
History of Hearing Aids
Take a look at the colorful history of hearing aids, ear trumpets of the first electronic hearing aid (too bulky to be portable) to the invention of transistors into the digital age. You will also learn about some of the latest innovations, including the use of ADRO (adaptive dynamic range optimization) technology into new lines of hearing aids.
The history of hearing aids: A look at the technology of hearing aids
From its size with its way of operating that way, the hearing aid technology that is used today is very different from what hearing aids used 100, 50 or even five years ago. The history of hearing aids is far reaching and colors – the first hearing aids worked without electricity, while the first electric models were simply too big to be portable. Today, digital hearing aids are discrete, lightweight, and have the ability to be adjusted for different environments and to amplify the sound without distortion. And the future has many improvements in hearing aid technology as a whole. But it is important to review the history of hearing aids to understand that only the industry is headed.
The early history of hearing aids
We began our look at the history of hearing aids two hundred years ago, when aid arrived in the form of ear trumpets – large horn in the form of devices used to direct sound into the ear of a hearing impaired person and provide very basic sound amplification without electricity. These trumpets were large and difficult, although some models can be worn on the head with a harness. There is a basic function – sound amplification – and could also improve the signal to noise ratio in a noisy environment, but were unable to do much more. In fact, Cupping his hand behind his ear gives a similar (but smaller) amplification. Hearing aid technology has come a long way from now.
The advent of electric hearing aids
Hearing aid technology began to change rapidly with two important milestones in the history of hearing aids – the advent of electricity and Alexander Graham Bell’s work on the phone, which was essentially an electronic machine that could amplify the sound through a microphone carbon in combination with a battery. Modern technology is still Headset uses the concept of a receiver, a telephone, to describe the small speaker inside the hearing aid.
In the early 1920s, hearing aid technology incorporated the use of vacuum tubes, allowing a much more efficient method to amplify the sound. However, the first electric hearing aids are still too unwieldy to be carried around easily – many of them as big as the table radios, and just as heavy. Fortunately, an important event in the history of hearing aids is just around the corner.
Smaller batteries, smaller hearing aids
One of the first major changes in the history of hearing aids that led to a decrease in size was the miniaturization of batteries. Previously, batteries were large, heavy, and could not hold a charge for a long time, which makes them impractical for use by hearing aid. Battery packs must be used in the hearing-impaired person’s body. In the 1930s, hearing aid technology has progressed so that aids could be portable.
The transistor changes everything
However, the most important event in the history of hearing aids had not yet arrived. It is the invention of the transistor in the 1950s that changed hearing aid technology completely. A transistor is simply a switch that has no moving parts and that has only two options: On or Off. Place several transistors together, however, and you can get increasingly larger combinations of on / off switches – the basic binary code, and, essentially, a computer in its simplest form. In addition, the conductivity of a transistor can be manipulated on the basis of the purity of silicon with which the transistor is, providing an infinite number of possibilities for the transistor can be used. Silicon transistors allowed hearing aids to shrink in size so that they can become “body aids,” eventually leading to hearing aid technology available in a size that we are familiar today – with the aid that can be used discreetly behind the ear or even within the ear canal.
The Digital Age
In the mid-1990s, digital hearing aid technology is commonly used. Digital hearing aids allow for more precise configuration of sound in the ear of the user. With digital circuits, the sound could be expanded or decreased as needed. Programs could be created that could be used, depending on the user’s location or needs – more amplification for quiet settings, for example, or specific amplification of certain frequencies in loud situations so that the user can clearly hear the voices of speech, even when surrounded by other noises. Digital products also took advantage of compression technology, the elimination of a annoying side effect that has plagued users throughout the history of hearing aids – the distortion of the sounds very strong.
Today the technology of hearing aid
Today, we are still shaping the history of hearing aids, hearing aids and technology is constantly being updated. For example, new technologies are being introduced that allow the user to be directly involved with the installation of your headset. Instead of using basic prescriptions based on a user’s audiogram, testing can be performed, analogous to the optical test was conducted in an ophthalmologist’s office, to fine-tune the hearing aid settings for specific user. Listening to a narrow band of sounds and the sound of sentences to fill out a questionnaire with specific information, end users are able to modify their hearing aid settings to suit their needs.
Rules that utilize “fuzzy logic” (a system of computer instructions that allow the team to face ambiguities1) are based on some of the hearing aids. This allows the use of these customized settings to make sure that the hearing aid output is constantly optimized to listen to the needs of each sound in every environment. Clinical studies show that this new generation of hearing aid technology can provide constantly improving the intelligibility of speech and in quiet noisy environments, more comfort for the user to the presence of loud sounds, greater audibility of soft sounds And improving the quality of sound in the conventional amplification schemes.
This hearing aid technology is not offered by all manufacturers, but worth it because search can greatly improve a user’s view when you use the help. Newer hearing aids are also offered with limited ear occlusion, making them almost invisible to the user and allowing the audience to continue to improve.
In addition, a new hearing aid technology known as ADRO (adaptive dynamic range optimization) is starting to be available from some manufacturers. This is one of the most significant changes in the recent history of hearing aids, as it is a major upgrade of the traditional compression circuits that are most often used with digital hearing aids.
ADRO allows the audience to help make constant adjustments to its algorithms using fuzzy logic, delivering the user a higher level of sound quality and eliminating the inconvenience stronger sounds more easily. Echoes are also eliminated. The latest generation of ADRO, which goes a step beyond what was originally offered, is presented by some companies in an ultra low delay product that delivers up to 32 channels, a large increase from products that were previously only offer seven or eight. Some products in this new generation of hearing aids also incorporate a new, adaptive directional microphone. This exciting new hearing aid technology gives us a glimpse of what the future holds.
The future of the technology of hearing aid
As well as the history of hearing aids has seen many events, the future of hearing aids will bring extremely exciting new options for all users, just in time for the aging of the baby boom generation. Transducers are getting smaller and at the same time, circuitry is shrinking rapidly. This means that ever smaller, ever more powerful hearing aids will be capable of being produced. And consumers will find themselves in control of their own hearing again, as they become even more involved with the installation and adjustment of their hearing aids. We’ve come a long way from ear trumpets, but hearing aid technology continues to evolve with time, and we still have a long way to go.
To Flu Shot or Not to Flu Shot? That is the Question
With Avian Flu in the news, parents, seniors, healthcare providers are exploring the question of whether flu shots are appropriate, and if they should be mandated to protect us all from the risk. The fact that many doctors can not get the shots should not be a deterrent for those who are convinced of the benefit. Most drug stores still have stock available.
Flu shots are not a slam dunk. They are controversial. Here are some of the reasons why:
oFlu shots are preserved with thimerisol as the primary preservative. Thimerisol is a nerve toxin, a form of organic mercury. Mercury poisoning is deadly and cause a range of health issues that stay with the patient for life. The effect is cumulative, and if annual flu vaccines become required, the toxic load is sufficient to cause autism-like symptoms, fibromyalgia like symptoms and more. Thimerisol has been banned in many European countries, because of its negative health impacts. I repeat, mercury is a neural poison. Do we really want to inject it directly into our blood streams?
oFlu shots have a more concentrated dose of mercury, than the EPA indicates is safe for a 250-pound man. We give these shots to babies and school children. And we wonder why learning disabilities are rising at alarming proportions in this country?
oFlu shots have viral elements based upon the prior flu season in the southern hemisphere, typically Australia. There is no guarantee that the strain of flu that the vaccine builds resistance to, will be what is needed in the US the following season. There is no double blind, scientific testing with flu vaccines. The more a virus mutates, as a result antibiotic overuse, or a result of genetically modified organisms gone wrong, or as a result of the process of making the vaccine, for example, the more likely the vaccine will be ineffective.
oWhen flu vaccines were first developed they were determined inappropriate for people in fragile health, the elderly and for people with certain reactions, allergies to certain drugs and foods. Unfortunately when these populations were eliminated, the market for these vaccines was less than 20% of the population. Thus these concerns were removed from final warnings for these vaccines.
oWhile flu vaccines were added the government’s list of mandatory vaccines for school children under the age of 18 and are recommended for elderly, parents can opt their children out, with a philosophical, health or religious objection. However many parents are unaware of their ability to do this, because schools have incentives to get all their students vaccinated, because the formula for state funding of schools includes incentives for vaccinated school population. It is not in the schools financial interest to inform parents of their rights.
oHealthcare workers were very forceful, in their boycott of federal plans to required healthcare workers to submit to mandatory smallpox vaccines, as part of a bio-war on terror. The program was scrapped. If healthcare workers, who are most aware of the vaccines, refuse them, what should the rest of us be taking from this?
oPeople who got flu vaccines still get the flu. What efficacy is that?
oThere are other ways to protect against the flu, with less potentially lethal side effects. These include using homeopathic anti-flu meds like Occillo. These include making sure you eat healthy, keep your immune system in peak condition, eat your vegetables. If you are concerned about Avian Flu, consider eating only organic, range free chicken. And if you find yourself catching a flu, consider in addition to chicken soup, and drinking lots of liquid, a trip to your acupuncturist, your naturalpath or your chiropractor.
The answer to whether or not to vaccinate would seem to rest upon your trust or lack of it in the vaccine’s effectiveness and safety, weighed against the potential for harm if indeed you became sick with the virus.
Mild To Severe Allergic Reactions To Childhood Vaccinations
Due to the problems with possible allergic reactions to childhood immunization shots and adult vaccines there are a number of questions that you should speak with your doctor about first.
1. Is the patient currently sick?
2. Has there previously been an allergic reaction to a vaccine?
3. Is there any history of allergic reactions, severe allergies, immune disorders or convulsions?
4. Will I recognize an allergic reaction to a vaccine?
5. Can I obtain the manufacturer name and lot number of the medicine being used?
6. Is there an alternative?
If you are interested in alternatives to vaccinations you will need to look around for a doctor who is interested in alternative medicine.
Allergic reactions to vaccines can happen to anyone, child or adult, even if there has never been a reaction before. Knowing what the reactions are and how to spot them is necessary so you understand the treatment that is necessary or if you need to consult the doctor.
Early in life children are given the DTaP vaccine. This is the abbreviation for Diptheria, Tetamus and Pertussis. The diseases are a great deal more dangerous than the vaccine, however they can still cause some side effects.
A mild allergic reaction may include fever, redness or swelling and possible tenderness and soreness at the pace where the injection was given. Generally after the 4th or 5th shot the side effects are more evident.
Other mild reactions that you may see are poor appetite, tiredness, fussiness and vomiting. Now there are some allergic reactions that are very rare, however they are severe and should be watched. These include high fever, seizures, coma, non-stop crying or possible brain damage.
The Hepatitis A vaccine causes some mild reactions such as headache, loss of appetite, soreness where the shot is given and tiredness that can last up to 2 days. For the Hepatitis B vaccine the reactions are similar, however there may be a slight fever. Although rare, more severe allergic reactions would appear within a few minutes to a few hours.
Reactions to the Hib vaccine include warmth, swelling and redness where injected and generally a fever of over 101. This may all begin within a day or so and last up to 3 days.
Once vaccine the HPV has only mild reactions that include redness and possible swelling and pain at the site of the injection along with some itching and mild to moderate fever. There do not seem to be any serious allergic reactions to this vaccine.
A very common vaccine that is used for adults and children alike is the Flu vaccine. There are some mild allergic reactions to this vaccine, however rarely any serious problems arise.
The flu virus itself has been deactivated so that you don’t actually get the flu from the flu shot. The most common reactions include redness, swelling and soreness.
You may even experience flu like symptoms with aches, pains and a slight fever that can last for a couple of days. If there is a more severe allergic reaction it will usually appear within a few hours of receiving the injection.
The vaccine that is given to children to fight against mumps, measles and rubella is the MMR vaccine. The allergic reactions are from mild to moderate and there is a bit of hullabaloo about whether or not is have been linked with the onset of autism.
The reactions that are mild include swelling of the glands in the neck and cheeks, although rare, a mild rash and fever. The more severe allergic reactions include temporary stiffness and pain in the joints, seizures and low platelet count that causes a bleeding disorder.
A severely debilitating disease that once left it’s victims with physical disabilities and paralysis has been all but eliminated since the creation of the Polio vaccine. The inactivated polio vaccine, referred to as IPV, should never be given to someone that has had a prior allergic reaction to streptomycin, neomycin, polmyxin or IPV.
Childhood vaccinations and immunizations has become a controversial issue. If you are concerned, do some research before allowing your child to be given any vaccine. Also, you can choose to make several visits to the doctor for these shots so your child is not given more than 1 or 2 vaccines each visit.
Exercise Guidelines For People Suffering From Arthritis
Although exercising is very essential for people suffering with arthritis, the kind and duration of exercises recommended for each individual will usually vary depending on the type of arthritis the person is suffering from. The extent of inflammation, and it also depends on which particular joint in the body is involved. Walking, running, jogging, cycling, swimming, and yoga are considered quite safe for those suffering with arthritis.
However, people suffering from arthritis must follow certain exercise guidelines to obtain maximum benefit from their exercises.
1. Exercise regularly without fail to see and feel the positive changes and benefits from your exercise schedule.
2. Gradually increase the frequency, time and intensity of any form of exercise that you perform. For instance, you can begin exercising for a short duration of time on non-consecutive days with a small amount of effort. Build up gradually and increase the length of time you exercise for before you increase the intensity. For instance, you can increase your exercise time by five to ten minutes every week.
3. Do not overexert yourself.
4. Do not continue exercising if your muscles feel sore or ache. Take rest. Exercise only when the pain and stiffness are at a minimum.
5. Strictly follow the doctor’s advice on the number of times a particular exercise must be performed. Take rest if you are initially not able to perform a particular exercise as many times as your doctor has recommended. Give a gap and then restart. Otherwise, too much strenuous activity could aggravate your symptoms.
6. Recognize the panic signals of your body like swollen, tender or hot joints. Immediately consult your doctor and report this condition and get your activity modified. Do not commit the mistake of continuing with the same exercise or modifying it in anyway you prefer.
7. It is advisable to avoid sudden, forceful and jerky motions. Exercise in a smooth and steady rhythm instead. Coordinate your breathing with the exercise. Relax between repetitions of two consecutive sets of the exercise.
8. Be very particular not to exercise immediately after eating. Exercise two or three hours after a meal.
9. Keep your body hydrated. It is important to drink water before, during and after exercising. Avoid strenuous exercises on hot and humid days.
It is very important to invest in good exercise equipment. For instance, a good pair of walking / jogging shoes offers the requisite support to the spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet. However, if you continue to exercise without proper shoes, you might end up damaging your body rather than helping it from the exercise.
