All About Cancer

15 Mar

Cancer is a disease in which certain body cells go out of control and start multiplying rapidly of their own accord. This uncontrolled growth becomes a tumor and eventually, if unchecked, will interfere with the working of a vital organ or organs and cause death.

It is not an infection (although in a few cases it can be caused by a viral infection) but the result, in all probability, inherited weakness in the genetic makeup, with poor living habits and surroundings. Unhealthy diet, smoking, prolonged stress, and industrial pollution, for example, are either known to be, or are strongly suspected of being, main contributory or risk factors in cancer.

The human body contains more than of some coupled 200 different types of cell, which means there are more than 200 different types of cancer. An abnormal growth may be called a tumor or a neoplasm (neo simply means “new” and plasm means “form”). A resulting illness is known as a neoplastic disorder.

If the tumor or growth is purely local and not invasive it will be described as benign. A benign growth does not spread, so is less damaging. Examples are warts, cysts, and polyps. A growth that cannot be contained and continues to spread unchecked is known as a malignant growth. This is cancer.

Medical terms given to the different sorts of cali relate to where they are growing in the body:

Carcinoma is cancer of the skin covering the outside of the body and the mucous membrane lining the cavities within (epithelial tissue). This is by far them common type of cancer and includes cancers of the, breast, lung, colon, prostate, and skin. The most serious form of skin cancer is melanoma.

Sarcoma is cancer of the bones, tendons, muscles.

Lymphoma is cancer of the glands (or nodes) or other parts of the lymphatic system

Leukemia is cancer of the blood.

Cancer differs from country to country and from region to region. Some types of cancer are more communi Western countries, such as North America and Europe, than in Eastern countries, such as Japan, or so-called developing countries such as Africa. In Japan, for example, there are many more cases of stomach cancer than there are in the West, and in Africa liver cancer is much more widespread than elsewhere. Overall, the ten most common cancers found worldwide are of the lung, stomach, breast, lower bowel, cervix, mouth, lymphatic system, liver, throat, and prostate gland. None of the therapies described offers a cure for cancer but they can alleviate symptoms and support the immune system.

Instant Techniques For Controlling Arthritis Pain

14 Mar

Few sicknesses and conditions cause more discomfort in day-to-day living than arthritis. Medical experts have expended tremendous amount of energy, time and money in finding ways to deal with this crippling condition that afflicts millions of people. While seeking competent medical attention is always the preferred way of dealing with the disease, there are simply home remedies that can be very effective in controlling the pain that strikes whenever one makes a simple movement.

Stretching exercises

If you are afflicted with the pain of arthritis, one effective maneuver you can institute right from home is simply stretches. These serve to warm the tendons and even the muscles themselves. A 15 minute stretch of the muscles surrounding the area can greatly alleviate the pain.

Be conservative with your movements

Arthritis pain can strike at any time but in most cases it strikes when there is movement to the joints. It is recommended that whenever you hear that you immediately stop any movements especially to the area in question.

Avoid using the joint in question

When arthritis pain makes life miserable and prevents you from enjoying the quality of your life, the most logical next move is to ensure that you stop using the joint that is affected. This gives the body time to release chemicals which alleviate the pain.

Massaging techniques

People suffering from arthritis have reported that simple massage movement along the joint and general muscle area where the pain is concentrated can go a long way in cooling the pain. This is because a massage boosts blood circulation to the area which in term brings with it pain-alleviating chemical compounds.

It is generally recommended that if you perform the above home remedies and the pain persists, then you will do well to consult a doctor’s advice. Arthritis can cause severe pain and even disfiguration of the joint and muscle area in question if proper treatment is not accorded.

There are millions of arthritis sufferers in the world today. Modern medical research has also made tremendous breakthroughs when it comes to controlling and managing the disease but there is also a lot that one can do on their own to make life manageable for themselves and the above are a few of the most effective

Hip Arthritis Help – If Glucosamine Does Not Relieve The Pain Of Arthritis Of The Hip, What Does?

13 Mar

A two year study conducted by a team of researchers at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands recently concluded that the use of glucosamine has no meaningful effect on the pain in patients with arthritis of the hip, as posted in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Rianne M. Rozendaal and colleagues randomly assigned 222 patients in the early stages of hip arthritis to either glucosamine or a placebo. The research team took careful precautions to ensure the integrity of their results, including requiring that the supplier of the glucosamine double check that the tablets were of the correct dose. In spite of the carefully controlled conditions, the treatment had no significant effect on pain scores, stiffness, or physical function.

Many consumers have turned to glucosamine as a way to treat hip arthritis pain as an alternative to pain medications. However, despite various studies, definitive proof of glucosamine being effective as a treatment for pain associated with arthritis of the hip is lacking. So that leaves consumers wishing to avoid frequent use of pain medication with a big question: “If glucosamine does not help, then what does?”

If you wish to avoid unnecessary strain on your hip, and in doing so relieve hip pain, a variety of independent living products are available that allow you to continue enjoying your usual lifestyle. Many who suffer from hip arthritis are unaware that by making small adjustments to their everyday routine, they can enjoy a relatively pain free lifestyle without the use of narcotics.

Sitting and Standing in the Living Room and Kitchen

Arthritis of the hip can make sitting down and standing up a painful experience, and make standing for a long period of time virtually impossible. With the correct products around the home, however, you can go about your normal routine with very little change to the lifestyle you have grown accustomed to.

Standing up from a chair or couch can be especially difficult, especially if soft foam causes you to sink low into the seat. Not every couch is “hip arthritis friendly”: couches rarely sit high off the ground and often the armrests are not positioned in a way that makes them ideal for support when you stand up. The CouchCane is an easy to install solution that provides you with a sturdy, comfortably positioned handle that you can lift yourself up with. The weight of your couch holds it in place while the rubber feet on its base prevent slipping and protect your floor. The CouchCane features an adjustable height hand grip, quality steel components, and an adjustable base that fits either end of a variety of couch sizes and styles.

If you lack hand and arm strength, or if you have arthritis in your hand as well, a handle to lift yourself up will not be of much help. Pride Lift Chairs make an attractive addition to any room’s d

An Under Counter Water Filter Offers Convenience and Frees Up Counter Space

11 Mar

In this day and age of more pollution and toxic chemicals in our environment, a home water filter is a must. It’s becoming a standard part of being a homeowner. Many people are making sure they have water filters just like they have a fire alarm or door bell in their homes. The latest product that you might want to check out is an under counter water filter.

As more people become concerned about their health, water filters are, in fact, an essential part of living well. But also in this hectic world, people are searching for more convenient options, too. Once such handy filtration method is an under counter water filter. It’s proving to be a good option for homeowners who want pure water instantly without having to buy bottled water or rely on unsafe tap water.

Unlike some portable water filters that are attached directly to the faucet, under counter water filters are connected to the plumbing below your countertop or other sink area. What is so appealing about these systems is that they are not bulky and kept well out of sight. So you also don’t have to keep turning them on and off. Additionally, they deliver a constant flow of clean water to your tap or even hose attachment as well.

The only thing you might not enjoy is that such systems do come with additional setup work. The array of under counter water filters requires a bit more installation than your typical water faucet devices. But overall they don’t need a separate drain or feed line that connects to the main pipe and cold water tap.

Another convenient quality of filters for the average consumer is that most of these systems come with instructions and all the parts you need to install them. Installing under counter water filters can usually be done in less than an hour. Most of the time, you will need to contact a plumber to complete the installation correctly.

Whether you want a under the sink device or not, make sure whatever you get is patented and has everything that you need to install it. When you open your package, make sure you have all the parts listed in the product description. Also, don’t forget to check for all the necessary fittings, tubing and brackets, too. As with any type of water filtration system, an under counter water filter has a cartridge that must be replaced from time to time. After the first time you do this, replacing the cartridge is very easy and can be done quickly.

Many people prefer the under counter water filters because they save on counter space. And if you live in an apartment or studio, this can be a big concern. So once installed, such a filtration system is quite unobtrusive. While you want an easy-to-use and conceal system, you need to get a good working device. There are several different types available, including specialty filters that are designed to remove fluoride, lead, bacteria, and other harmful elements.

In conclusion, once the unit has been installed in your kitchen, all you need to do is follow the directions and do some low-level maintenance along the way. Normally, all that is required is for you to unscrew the cover of the under counter water filter and then replace it with the new one.

Is Pancreatic Cancer Curable?

10 Mar

Bob looks at Dr. Peter Roland with trepidation. What is he going to say? Will he give him false hopes? Thoughts like this are rummaging through his mind and he is looking at the doctor for a hint as to what the result of his medical tests would be. Bob has never felt so troubled in his life time. He is wondering about his wife Julia and kids waiting at home for him. A lump forms in his throat and tears blur his vision. Bob is not alone in this situation. There are thousands of Bobs in this world waiting with fear and anxiety about their health condition, while pancreatic cancer affects them without their knowledge.

This deadly disease is a silent killer. Pancreatic cancer is never known till it reaches a late stage. Since the organ is very tiny and is placed in a tricky place it’s difficult to detect pancreatic tumors till a late stage. This is one form of cancer which does not provide definite symptoms whereby the cancer can be detected at a formative stage, and coupled with that is the fact that options for treatment for this cancer is limited.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most fatal form of cancer behind breast, colon and prostrate. There are four stages in pancreatic cancer. If it is detected at the first stage when it is still developing in the pancreas then chemotherapy can possibly prevent the cancer from spreading and clean it out of the system. Generally pancreatic cancer is never detected in stage one. Stage two also tries to arrest the spreading of the cancer to other related organs by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. If these two fail then surgery to remove the pancreas called pancreatectomy can be performed. This depends on the age and health condition of the patient.

In stage three the cancer could have spread like fire and other body parts and tissues may also have got affected. Surgery and chemotherapy to the other parts including pancreas is performed. By the fourth stage it’s futile to try any treatment as the cancer has affected the nearby organs like stomach, spleen, large bowels or the nearby blood vessels

Once the cancer sets in the pancreas, the bile duct which caries bile from the liver to the arteries gets clogged and there is reverse flow of bile as a result of which jaundice and fever set in the body. Subsequentl,y it starts affecting other organs as well, and ultimately leads to death.

Caffeine Headaches

10 Mar

Headaches are felt by everyone at various times but there are particular substances which makes it more likely to be triggered off such as caffeine. Caffeine is a substance used in certain products like coffee, chocolate and tea and is also added to sodas and non-prescription drugs such as cold medicines and pain-relievers. Caffeine is often used to improve muscle co-ordination, to increase the alertness of a person and decrease fatigue. However, with these enhancement, caffeine can also become too stimulating and cause headaches if over used. This article will go more in-depth and discuss some of the warning signs of caffeine headaches and possible treatments.

Caffeine works as a stimulant on the central nervous system and it is also placed in medications as a remedy for headaches however, it can also work as a vasoconstrictor and can even ncrease a persons’s blood pressure, which can then lead to headaches. taking large doses of caffeine on an empty stomach, can help to encourage a migraine headache because it adjusts your blood sugar levels and causes it to become irregular. Persons who suffer from migraine headaches need magnesium in their system to help fight it off, but because caffeine is a diuretic it also has the ability to flush the magnesium from your system making the headache even worse. Medications that contain caffeine can also further heighten the bad effects of a headache. Migraine headaches have the ability to continue for extended periods of time, from a couple hours within the day to a couple days and even weeks depending on the severity.

Symptom

As with other causes of headaches, caffeine headaches has basically the same symptoms, like disturbed concentration, fatigue, aching muscles, dizziness and in some cases nausea. Continuous Disturbed concentration affects a person’s ability to actively function in their environment, especially if headaches prolong over long periods of time. In most cases headaches result in a lot of strain in various muscles in the body, especially the head, neck, shoulder and back areas. This can make persons incapable to be able to rest comfortably. Sleep is one of the body’s basic needs, it aids in the healing process of revitalizing, relaxing the body and works as a natural tranquilizer, so when this process becomes hampered it further increases the stress level, leads to more headaches and further affects their performance. Headaches can also make persons become very irritable and may be affected by any and everything that affects them in their environment, minor situation can sometimes make them easily distressed.

Generally persons should make a note of how much caffeine they drink and make their daily consumption of caffeine as low and consistent as possible. Not doing this can cause overuse of caffeine and thus continued headaches. Over the counter prescription medications such as pain killers can be used to alleviate headaches pain, in case it restarts and worsen. If headaches continue for a long time then you may need to contact your local doctor

Healing Joint Pain Through Hypnotic Movement

10 Mar

Arthritis is not the only source of joint pain to affect our bodies. Old sports injuries and the residue of auto accidents can affect our bodies for years after one has supposedly recovered from the acute effects of the accident. The former high school football player with the bad knee, the chronic pain of an old whiplash injury, such residual pains are all too familiar to many of us. Chronic emotional stress can also settle in the joints. Carpal tunnel syndrome is but one example of the way emotional stresses, often work related, can settle in the body.

What if you could learn for yourself simple movements that can easily eliminate pain, and restore flexibility and strength in the joints? Movements that can address all of the sources of joint and muscle pain mentioned above. These movements are easy and pain-free to perform and take as little as 5 minutes a day. In other words, in about as much time as it would take to find and open a bottle of pills, fill a glass of water, and drink, your clients could experience moving their way to a radical reduction in pain and healing and strengthening the joint. This is the promise of a new technology for healing called hypnotic movement.

The concept of hypnotic movement is simple. The body has a deep inner knowledge of how it wants and needs to move in order to alleviate stress on the joint, increase healthy circulation, restore flexibility, and relieve pain. These simple movements are easy and natural for anyone to experience. In fact, most of us have already experienced hypnotic movement at one time or another. Have you ever noticed the way your body stretches sometimes when you wake up in the morning with a stiff back? Sometimes when you wake up stiff, and you take the time to get up slowly, you may find your body reaching up in a slow relaxed stretch, perhaps your muscles tremble slightly, and you might even sigh or moan with pleasure as you stretch. Have you noticed how good your back feels after you have stretched out the kinks in this way? This is an example of hypnotic movement. Of course you didn’t think you were in trance. But you were, having just woken up, in a state of being relaxed and connected to your body and its needs.

This state of relaxation with increased body awareness is not the usual state of deep hypnotic trance that most hypnotists and their clients are familiar with, in which the body lies in peaceful repose, while a hypnotist leads you on a journey and offers hypnotic suggestions. This is a state of “alert trance”, just like that morning stretch, in which mild relaxation is combined with a profound awareness of our body and its feelings. This state is similar to the trance which athletes describe when they are running a marathon, or playing at their peak in a sports event. They call it being “in the zone”, a blissful state of stepping out of their daily worries and feeling merged with their body as it performs flawlessly in the sport. Sportsmen know this altered state quite well and seek it out in every competition and practice, even though few understand that it is a type of hypnosis. To achieve the results of hypnotic movement you need to work with a hypnotherapist who is familiar with this alert trance.

While many of us have surrendered to our bodies’ natural hypnotic movements once in a while, few of us listen to our bodies’ needs for movement very often because we have as a culture been trained to override our bodies’ feelings and needs as children. How often were we as small children told to stop fidgeting (a movement little bodies should be doing lots of) when forced against our nature to sit still at a desk? Stop wiggling, sit still, no you can’t go to the bathroom, don’t make those noises, children should be seen and not heard…etc.etc. It is no wonder that most of us start regarding our bodies as a stupid object, a vehicle that at best carries us around, but then has all those aches and pains that we don’t understand. Then we are trained to believe that there is nothing we can do for our bodies’ pains except take it to a doctor. There we receive pills to make it better. We have lost the knowledge of our bodies’ healing powers.

Well, there is good news. Your body may have stopped making these healing movements years ago, but it still knows how to move in all those miraculous ways. All it needs is some help in awakening these latent inner powers! And that help can be provided by a hypnotherapist trained in Somatic Healing, of which hypnotic movement is one of many techniques.

Let me illustrate this with a story. A client came to me with severe sciatica. The pain radiated constantly down his right leg, forcing him to contemplate leaving his job permanently on disability. While some folks might be thrilled by a ticket to a life of leisure, this man loved his work in the construction business and wanted to get well. Unfortunately, the doctors didn’t hold out much hope, given the depth of his pain. While I led him gently into the mild alert state of trance, I gave him suggestions that his body knew exactly how to move in its own way to relieve his pain. I used a number of other suggestions to trigger this movement. Soon his body was twisting in the peculiar combination of stretches and wiggles that is hypnotic movement. Within about three sessions his pain was gone. But, this was not just because of his work in my office.

No, he learned to use hypnotic movement on his own, and simply did these simple exercises every time the pain arose, and at night while lying in bed. Soon he was back at work. Then one day he fell off a platform on the job and sprained his ankle. The pain was severe, but by this time he had mastered the art of listening to his body’s needs. No, he didn’t call me. He spent a few minutes resting at the work site, relaxing into that deep state of body awareness we call “The Zone”. Then he allowed his foot to move for a few minutes very slowly, free of pain, in its own unique way, as I had taught him. Within half an hour he was pain free and back on his feet. I was not there to witness this miracle, but he was thrilled to share this story with me, and a co-worker called me to ask if I could teach him to use the powers he had witnessed with such amazement. That’s why my favorite somatic healing practitioner, Brigitta D’Amato, calls this work “Somatic Self-Healing”. Because we empower our clients to heal themselves!

I have trained hundreds of practitioners in these techniques as a part of the Somatic Healing training. Using hypnotic movement, we have achieved excellent results in a wide variety of joint and movement related conditions including:

o Rheumatoid arthritis – I was crippled with the disease 29 years ago, and developed this technology to heal myself. I’ve been entirely symptom-free since 1984. ( I now use hypnotic movement to keep my body flexible and strong so I can pursue my hobby of rock climbing and mountaineering. At 57 I have the flexibility and grace of a 30 year old thanks to hypnotic movement) I have helped many more with this condition.

o Carpal tunnel syndrome – We’ve seen immediate reduction in pain, stiffness and swelling, and continuing improvement through daily practice.

o Osteoarthritis – We’ve seen flexibility restored, swelling reduced or eliminated, and pain sometimes completely removed in knees, hips, lower back, and fingers. One client was able to restore her ability to play her favorite Rachmaninoff piano pieces in a single session by giving back the strength and flexibility in her fingers. Now she says every time her fingers begin to swell and hurt, she simply uses a simple massage and movement technique to restore complete freedom of movement in 5 minutes or less.

o Sciatica – I have worked with many clients helping them learn to rotate and re-align hips on their own

o Post-traumatic injury pain and stiffness – We have achieved remarkable results with long-term post-traumatic pain from automobile accidents and other injuries. We have had especially good results with whiplash injuries.

o Chronic back pain – Backs respond quite well to hypnotic movement. See our web article, Healing Back Pain for more details, including hypnotic movements you can start doing now to improve your back.

o Post surgical recovery – If you suffer chronic pain even after corrective surgery, hypnotic movement can be very important for a full recovery. See our article on Hypnosis and Surgery for more details.

Would you like to learn these healing powers for your own body? I developed the hypnotic movement process in 1979. I have been teaching it since 1995. In all these years, I have found that almost anyone can learn to enter this delightful zone of body awareness, and can learn in a remarkably short time to become a master of the hypnotic movement technique. It can be used in conjunction with pain medications and any other medical treatment, and physical therapy, which I find works well with hypnotic movement. Tell your doctor you want hypnotic movement therapy. Then call our office at (800) 950-4984 and start learning now how to control and maybe eliminate your pain while healing your joints!

4 Foods To Eat To Prevent Yeast Infection

10 Mar

Yeast infection is caused by sudden growth and replication of a fungus called Candida Albicans. The spores of the Candida Albicans is prevalent and can be found at at places. Under suitable conditions such as warm and damp weather, wrong or excessive use of antibiotics et cetera, these would encourage the growth of the fungus. Generally, it is important for us to adopt a healthy diet that consists of foods that can prevent the infection. Here, I would like to share some foods to eat to prevent yeast infection.

Firstly, garlic is one of the commonly used household foods to combat the infection. Garlic has a very powerful anti fungal property. Eating 1-4 cloves of garlic a day can help to boost your immunity towards fungal infection. Garlic is so powerful that it is even used in traditional medicine to cure yeast infections. Traditionally, people crushed the garlic and apply it at the infected area.

Secondly, seaweed can also be used to fight yeast infection. Seaweed contains high iodine that is proven to be effective against fungal infection too. Seaweed can be eaten raw (after washed with water), or make into soup (miso soup perhaps).

Besides that, yoghurt is also one of the best foods to eat to prevent yeast infection. Yoghurt contains good bacterias that will “kill” the Candida Albicans fungus and spores. However, please remember that you should take the real, unsweetened yoghurt for the best result.

You might also be surprised that carrot can help to prevent yeast infection. Carrot, like garlic, has very good anti fungal property.

In conclusion, there are many foods that are very good in preventing the infection. Knowing what foods to eat to prevent yeast infection and include them in your daily meal will improve your health and immunity towards the painful fungus.

Golf Improvement Techniques – Improve Your Game With Muscle Memory and Golfing Aids

09 Mar

Taking up the game of golf can be very rewarding. It is a game that gets you outdoors in the fresh air, gives you a chance to socialize with like-minded people and a game that will challenge you every time you step out on the course.

As a beginner however you are probably looking for a way to help you improve your game quickly so that you can enjoy yourself even more.

There are many methods that can help you do this such as getting lessons from a professional and using golf training aids for beginners . The first place you should start is by having your swing checked by a professional.

Take the time and the money and get a few lessons in the first instance as these lessons can save you a lot of time in the long run It is always easier to learn something correctly right from the outset, than to try and unlearn bad habits that all (including the pro’s though seldom admitted) golfers tend to end up with.

These lessons will allow a professional to look at your grip, your stance, your take-away, your follow through, and putting stroke and make sure you have a good solid foundation to build your swing on.

Once you have had these lesson you will want to be able to maintain what you were taught and having a few training aids on hand is a great way to further train your body to have the best possible swing and putting stroke that you can have.

Muscle memory is a crucial technique in many sports particularly in golf, as it helps you “feel” when you have either executed a swing or putt correctly or incorrectly for that matter. This technique when coupled with visualisation can really help accelerate your learning process.

The beauty of using training aids for repetition and the development of muscle memory is of course that many of the available golf training aids can be used in a small area like a backyard, and although you can spend a lot of money on some of these aids most of them are reasonably priced.

So what types of aids can you find and what will they help you do? Here are a few that you may want to consider using:

For putting you can go very elaborate and get an indoor putting surface or you can get a simple device that you putt the ball into and it kicks it back to you. With a putting surface you will be able to learn to putt into the centre of the hole whereas with the putt returner you just aim at the returner.

However the most important thing about either of these golfing equipment pieces is that you are learning to feel your stroke. This is one of the most important aspects of putting, having a good repeatable stroke and as you become more confident using these aids you will see it translate to fewer putts on the course. Another golf training aids for beginners that can also be useful is the type where you use an iron that is “collapsible.” This aid works this way, the “iron” is usually a 7 iron and it has a break in it. What the break does is allows the iron to collapse if your take away and follow through are not done correctly.

This type of training tool is great for beginners because one of the biggest mistakes that a beginner makes is decelerating through the ball. This leads to all types of problems such as shanks and chunked shots out on the course.

If you decelerating while using this piece of golf equipment it will let you know by collapsing.

One aid that can be very helpful is a divot mat. To use this piece of golf equipment you lay the mat down where you are going to swing. Oftentimes there are “balls” drawn on the mat and you want to address the ball and then swing. The mat records what type of angle and trajectory that the club had at impact. This tool is especially helpful for those beginners that are hitting behind the ball.

This matt allows you to see exactly what you are doing so that you can correct it. Once you are hitting through the ball you will begin to see more yardage out of your clubs while you are out on the course.

So when you are new to the game of golf there are several things you can do to help lower your score quickly, especially if you can’t get to a course as often as you would like.

First, get a set of lessons from a professional that are geared specifically for beginners. This way you can start with good habits.

After that set of lessons you should go back twice a year just to make sure that you don’t have any bad habits forming. Then to help you maintain what you have learned and to maintain your “muscle memory” you should incorporate a few golf training aids for beginners.
